About Us
I Sew 4 U was proudly run as a mother-and-daughter team by Shirley Murdoch and Toni Moffatt for 15 years. Following Shirley's well-earned retirement, Toni now continues the business, with the occasional help of a very dedicated "unpicking assistant."
Shirley began her dressmaking business more than 30 years ago, and in 2008 Toni joined her, marking the beginning of I Sew 4 U. As the business grew, the sewing room expanded from an upstairs spare bedroom into a purpose-built downstairs workroom complete with a private consultation and fitting room.
In 2023, Shirley decided it was time to step back and enjoy a well-deserved semi-retirement. The business then relocated to Toni's home, where she transformed her garage into a spacious, fully equipped sewing studio designed to provide a comfortable and welcoming space for clients.
As a home-based business, I Sew 4 U offers a relaxed and personalised experience.

About Toni : With a mother and two grandmothers who were all talented seamstresses, it was almost inevitable that Toni would follow in their footsteps. After achieving top marks in Clothing and Textiles at high school, she went on to study Patternmaking and Advanced Sewing at Design Academy.
Upon graduating with a Diploma in Apparel Design and Construction, Toni was immediately employed as a sewing assistant by Veronica Peppers of Veronica Peppers Original Designs, a former winner of the Benson & Hedges Young Designer of the Year award. She has also worked as a Clothing Cutter and Sample Machinist, but her passion for sewing eventually led her back to her roots, where she joined forces with her mum.
Toni has a genuine love of working with people and is often praised by brides for her warm, friendly nature and the supportive experience she provides throughout their dressmaking journey.
When she's not sewing, Toni volunteers as a Kea Scout Leader and Group Leader for the Motu Moana Green Bay Scout Group. She also serves as the MoanaRua Zone Leader for Scouts Aotearoa.
Toni and her husband, Mark, have three children and two lively Pomeranians, Ruby and Leo, who keep the whole family entertained.

Shirley started in the clothing industry over 45 years ago. After working as a Clothing Cutter and Sample Machinist with various sports firms, Shirley decided to further her dressmaking skills and attended Patternmaking Classes at Night School and became an Image Consultant who provided the services of Colour Analysis, Body Line and Style and Wardrobe Planning. Shirley is now mostly retired but still does a bit of hand sewing for the Business
